Who are we?
The Dominican Society of Radio Amateurs - SDRA is an association of Dominican radio amateurs, constituted on April 4, 2022 in the city of Santo Domingo, arises from a joint idea of a group of radio amateurs to create a channel through which to facilitate the evolution, development and growth of the Dominican amateur radio.
Our main purpose is to bring together all those interested in the science of telecommunications and amateur radio in general, supporting the education and promotion of the Dominican amateur radio, as well as the realization of competitions and experimental station operations, amateur radio expeditions, operations, activations and special events and social activities, design and implementation of techniques and equipment for radio amateurs, operations and special events and in general, to promote an active amateur radio in the Dominican Republic and to promote national and international inter-institutional relations, putting our equipment, resources, experience and techniques at the service of society.
In order to achieve these objectives, the Dominican Amateur Radio Society - SDRA will make available to national and international radio amateurs, among others, the following activities:
- Organization of conferences, courses, workshops, lectures and in general all kinds of activities that favor the improvement of the radio hobby;
- Promotion and implementation of special activations, special broadcasts, participation in contests, experimental modes, among others.
- To promote and sponsor experimental activities in radio communication and electronics, so that the skills and experiences gained in amateur radio reach the benefit of the general public.
- To organize contests that tend to keep the interest of radio amateurs awake and to improve the technical and operational level of its members and amateurs in general.
- To publish Bulletins, Guides, Brochures, and any other informative and educational material on national and international amateur radio, that help the formation of its members and radio amateurs in general.
- To award diplomas to reward the work of distinguished radio amateurs.
- Establish collaboration links with persons or associations of recognized national and international prestige that can help both training programs and transfer of theoretical and/or practical knowledge.
- To provide telecommunications support and collaboration to the authorities, especially in the event of disasters or emergencies, through its technical and human resources.
- Motivate and assist interested parties to obtain their amateur radio licenses, as well as category changes, by implementing classes, training programs, help desk, etc.
- To provide, as a public service for community, civil, health and/or charity groups and agencies, communication support for events, such as parades, marathons, fairs and events of the same nature.
In the Dominican Amateur Radio Society Inc. we believe in an entity that is not only institutional, self-sustainable, but should also be innovative, collaborative and participatory, and that brings together and recognizes the value of radio amateurs, promoting and motivating an active, modern and diverse amateur radio.
Amateur radio today has a lot to offer, Dx's, contests, outdoor operations (POTA, BOTA, SOTA, Field Days), experimental stations, new technologies and operation techniques. That is why our entity has emerged to offer radio amateurs a modern, agile, dynamic and high level platform, not only for the enjoyment of our hobby but also to make it available to the official and civil authorities in case of emergency or national catastrophe.
