How to operate legally in the Dominican Republic with a foreign license

Are you a ham radio operator planning to visit or move to the Dominican Republic?

At SDRA, we are committed to the regularization of the operations of foreign and Dominican radio amateurs residing abroad, ensuring that they can operate within the current legal framework.

There are two main options for operating legally in the country:

  1. Temporary Authorization: for short-term visitors
  2. Validation of Foreign License: for those who establish definitive residence in the Dominican Republic.

Both processes are simple, fast and ensure compliance with local regulations.

Operating as an Amateur Radio Operator During Your Vacation

If you enjoy operating in every destination you visit, Dominican Republic welcomes you! Our regulation allows foreign radio amateurs to operate temporarily under the Portable HI modality.

  1. Requirements to obtain the Temporary Permit (Portable HI):
    1. Letter of request
    1. Affidavit Form
    1. Copy of valid passport
    1. Copy of your amateur radio license from your country of origin
  • How to apply:
    • Send an email to our address info@sdra.do and you will receive a form to be filled in.
    • With the information contained in the form, our Help Desk will prepare the Letter of Request (see 1.a) and Affidavit Form (see 1.b) and they will be emailed to you for your signature.
    • Once the documents have been signed, return them to our Help Desk, together with the other requirements.
    • The Help Desk will submit the documents to INDOTEL by e-mail, with a copy to the interested party, and will be in charge of the follow-up of the file.
    • The request should preferably be made 45 days in advance of the planned date of travel.

Note: The call sign will include the HI prefix and the area of operation, for example: HI8/KB8SM.
